POLICY Antonio Montanari (1811 -1898) politician; journalist and Italian teacher. Editor of The Felsineo of Bologna from January 1847 until September 1848; when he was appointed Minister of Commerce in Rome under Pope Pius IX; who granted the 'Fundamental Statute for the government of the Papal States Time' in which for the first time lay people had access to the government of the Papal States. After the assassination of Pellegrino Rossi was Minister of the Interior and Finance. Followed by Pope Pius IX in flight to Gaeta; but he withdrew in May 1849 to return to Bologna. In 1859 he was elected member of the board provisional government where; under the Commissioner of Massimo d'Azeglio; was manager of section affairs and public safety. Minister also remained under the new governor-general of Romagna Leonetto Cipriani; to become Senator of the Kingdom of Italy in 1860. Then retiring in Meldola; became mayor from 1874 until his death. Photographic portrait of the era of the Ministry of Commerce; 1848.
