The Great Mosque of Xian; founded in 742 CE; is the oldest mosque in China. The original structure was built during the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907) although much of the present day mosque was reconstructed during the Ming Dynasty (1368 - 1644).

The mosque is completely Chinese in its construction and architectural style; except for some Arabic lettering and decorations. There are no domes or traditional-style minarets. Pictures From Asia David Henley
