Longdan tiger (Panthera zdanskyi). Illustration and photo-reconstruction of a longdan tiger coming out of the bush onto a track in the Asian forest. Longdan tigers are an extinct species of pantherine known from the Gansu province of north-western China. It dates to the Gelasian stage of the earliest Pleistocene, about 2.5 million years ago. It's skull is a little smaller than the head of today's tigers - about the size of a jaguar.
