He was interned when he was young; just after finished his studies at the Academy of Fine Arts in Krakow; in Oswiecim (Auschwitz) and then transferred to Mauthausen. After liberation; May 6; 1945; immediately began to draw scenes and characters of his experience. He produced a folder composed of 12 sketches entitled 'In the Valley of hunger'.
