Young grizzly bear. View of a young grizzly bear (Ursus arctos horribilis) sniffing and playing with blanketflowers (Gaillardia aristata). This bear is around six months old. Young are born in the winter, during the mother's period of winter rest, and live with their mother in their cave until the spring. They stay with their mother for around a year. The grizzly bear is a large carnivore which inhabits northern areas of Eurasia and western North America. Although it is a carnivore, its diet consists mainly of vegetation. It does seem to prefer flesh when it is available, however. Photographed in Montana, USA.
