Green tree ants (Oecophylla smaragdina) building their nest of rainforest leaves in tropical northern Queensland, Australia. They use their larvae (yellow, in the jaws of one ant) which produce silk, to sew the leaves into the nest, located in the foliage of a rainforest tree or shrub. They defend the nest by biting all who brush past and squirting citric aid into the bite, causing irritation. These ants can be crushed into water to make a pleasant-tasting citrus drink.
