Common Waterbuck (Kobus ellipsiprymnus), Lake Nakuru National Park, Kenya. The common waterbuck is a large antelope with a characteristic elliptical white ring around their rump. Females generally weigh between 350-400 lbs and males between 470-680 lbs. Adults generally stand 50 in. at the shoulder with males displaying long, curved horns. Waterbuck vary in color, with dark gray and rufous animals occurring in the same herd with coarse, shaggy coats which often emit a musky odor. Waterbuck prefer grassland habitats near water and are grazers, feeding on medium and short grasses that are rich in protein.
