The Greater Roadrunner (Geococcyx californianus) is a large, elongated terrestrial bird. It runs rapidly on strong feet and seldom flies. Its habitat includes chaparral, desert scrub, and other arid brush lands. Roadrunners feed on a wide variety of desert life including insects, scorpions, lizards and snakes. This one was photographed in the Sonoran Desert, Tucson, AZ.
