Bandy Bandy Snake (Vermicella annulata). These small snakes belong to the family elapidae and are venomous but harmless to humans. They grow to around 80 cm and occur over most of Australia except the southwest and extreme south. They are a burrowing species and feed almost exclusively on blind snakes (Typhlopidae). The snake in this photograph is exhibiting the characteristic body looping pose as a defensive mechanism. Mt. Carbine, North Queensland, Australia.
