Florida manatee (Trichechus manatus latirostris) in Homosassa Springs, Florida. Manatees, one of only four surviving species of sirenians, are severely endangered due to habitat loss and boat collisions. They are found in both salt and freshwater from Virginia to Louisiana, but live mostly in Florida coastal waters and rivers. Manatees are vegetarians and can reach thirteen feet in length and 3500 pounds.
