The Northern Shoveler (Anas clypeata) is named for it's distinct large "spoon" shaped bill, which is not much longer than the head, but its breadth and spoon shape make it unique among waterfowl. The drake has a green head and neck separated from a chestnut belly and sides by a white chest and breast. The Northern Shoveler's main breeding grounds occur in the prairie pothole region of the Dakotas, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and Manitoba. Tucson, AZ.
