This common tunicate or ascidian, Polycarpa aurata, is someties known as rthe "ox-heart ascidian". It occurs from the tropical eastern Indian Ocean to the western Pacific. Its color makes it stand out. It attaches to almost any hard surface. and feeds by drawing water in through the branchial siphon at the top, filtering out phytoplankton, bacteria, and other particles, then expelling the water through the atrial siphon at the bottom.
