Discarded objects in a freshwater lake. A bluegill (Lapomis macrochirus) swims past the trash. This pile of trash is a mess of old tin cans, bricks, broken glass and metal scraps. These rough surfaces are quickly becoming home to zebra mussels (Dreissena polymorpha), an invasive species.
