Sea smoke is fog caused by cold air flowing over a body of comparatively warm water, the vapor condensing in small convective columns near the water surface and giving the appearance of smoke or steam. Sea ice is formed from seawater that freezes. Because the oceans consist of saltwater, this occurs below the freezing point of pure water, at about 28.8 簞F.
