Mexican Gold Poppies (Eschscholzia mexicana) are winter annuals that grow in profusion with good fall and winter rain in the Sonoran Desert. Producing carpets of golden flowers covering gravelly desert slopes and arid flats. The Spanish name, Amapola del campo, means "poppy of the countryside" Organ Pipe National Monument, AZ.
