Dead moldy bat on the floor of Aeolus Cave, Vermont, USA. The surrounding floor is littered with the bones of other bats that have succumbed to the white-nose fungus. Aeolus Cave was once home to New England's largest bat hibernaculum, before white-nose syndrome drastically reduced its population by as much as 90% in the past few years. The mold on this bat is from regular decomposition, and is not the white-nose fungus.
