The Guggenheim Museum of Modern Art, originally known as the Museum of Non-Objective Painting, was established in 1939 New York City at a temporary residence. Paintings by radical new artists such as Vasily Kandinsky, Piet Mondrian, and Paul Klee were showcased here. The permanent home for the museum (which is seen here) was designed by Frank Lloyd Wright in 1959. Wright designed the curving, continuous building as a "temple of spirit" to break up the rectilinear grid of Manhattan.
