Guyanese Americans celebrating "Phagwah" in Queens, NY. Phagwah is a Hindu religious holiday in March that celebrates the triumph of good over evil. Participants wear white and throw a red dye (abeer) over each other, symbolizing the blood of a tyrannical king in Hindu folklore. The king, Kiranya was burnt alive by his son, Prahalad, because of the suffering his father had caused to his people.
