Evolutionary ecologist, naturalist and conservationist Dr. Daniel Hunt Janzen (born 1939) weighs a spiny pocket mouse in a Costa Rica laboratory. Dr. Janzen conceived and initiated two long-term projects in Costa Rica in the 1970s: Area de Conservacion Guanacaste, a habitat restoration project; and the Instituto Nacional de Biodiversidad (INBio), a research organization dedicated to cataloguing the country's wildlife.
