Sibiu (Hermannstadt in German) over centuries was the economic, administrative, political and ecclesiastical center of the Transylvanian Saxons (Siebenb羹rger Sachsen). In 2007 The center of the Old City with its parish churches was refurbished in view of its honor as one of two European Capitals of Culture (Luxembourg being the other). Sibiu also aspires to be declared a World Heritage site. The Protestant Parish Church, completed in 1520, is the city's architectural masterpiece.
