Ploiesti refinery in Wallachia, Romania. Ploiesti is the center of the country's oil industry. It is remembered for a catastrophic raid by the US Air Force during World War II (on August 1, 1943). The bombers in Operation Tidal Wave suffered heavy losses and inflicted few sustained damages.
