The new Guggenheim Museum, Bilbao, Spain, was opened in 1997. It is a spectular example of 'deconstructivism', by the contoroversal architect Frank Ghery. The large flower sculpture 'Puppy', by Jeff Koons, the American artist, is placed at the Museum entrance. The new museum building by Frank Gehry is also called 'Expressionist Modern' a free flowing sculpture of curvaceous metal clad (titanium) shapes. The sculptural style has become a Gehry signature. The museum is in the industrial capital and largest Basque city in Northern Spain along the banks of the River Nervion.
