Jeanne-Marie Lanvin (January 1, 1867, July 6, 1946) was a French fashion designer. She founded the Lanvin fashion house and the perfume company Lanvin Parfums. In 1909, Lanvin joined the Syndicat de la Couture, which marked her formal status as a couturi癡re. The clothing she made for her daughter began to attract the attention of a number of wealthy people who requested copies for their own children. Soon, she was making dresses for their mothers, and some of the most famous names in Europe were included in the clientele of her new boutique on the rue du Faubourg Saint-Honor矇, Paris. From 1923, the Lanvin empire included a dye factory in Nanterre. In the 1920s, Lanvin opened shops devoted to home decor, menswear, furs and lingerie. Faille is a type of fabric which is woven with a faintly ribbed pattern, creating a distinctive textured feel. This fabric is often used on formal dresses and gowns, and it can also be used to make jackets, vests, skirts and other garments. Photographed by the Bain News Service, November 1915.
