Poster of Captain George Costentenus or "The Greek Albanian" (April 17, 1833 - ?), who was a circus performer with many tattoos in Europe in the late 1800s. Color lithograph. Lettering: "Farini's latest novelty. Royal Aquarium. Captain Costentenus, the Greek Albanian! Tattooed from head to foot in Chinese Tartary, as punishment for engaging in rebellion against the King." Ca. 1882-1886. Costentenus was a famous traveling attraction who claimed to have been kidnapped by Chinese Tartars and tattooed against his will. His surname was sometimes spelled as Constantenus and Constantinius. He was also known as Djordgi Konstantinus and Georgius Constantine.
