Color enhanced transmission electron microscopy of a chloroplast of a tomato plant. The chloroplast contains membranous sacs, the thykaloids, which are stacked to form grana. The thykaloids contain chlorophyll and are the site of photosynthesis. During photosynthesis, light and carbon dioxide are converted to carbohydrates, which provide energy for the plant.
