Light micrograph at 350x magnification of a pars distalis, part of the human pituitary gland, an endocrine gland at the base of a vertebrate brain. This micrograph shows the cords of parenchymal cells, the essential cells of an organ. The acidophils, cells readily stained with acid dyes, are a red color; the basophils, cells easily stained with basic dyes, are a purple color; and the chromophobes, cells that do not stain easily, are a pale blue color.
