Light micrograph at 175x magnification through a section of the cortex, the outer layer, and the capsule of the adrenal gland, a type of endocrine gland (H&E stain). The zona glomerulosa is immediately below the capsule and is comprised of closely packed ovoid clusters of cells that are continuous with the cell cords in the zona fasciculata. The cell cords of the zona fasciculata merge with the darker staining cells of the zona reticularis.
