Negatively-stained transmission electron micrograph (TEM) revealed the presence of numerous bovine ephemeral fever virus virions, which are members of the Rhabdoviridae family of viruses, and the genus Ephemerovirus, infecting animals as well as plants. The ephemeral fever virus virion contains at its core a genome composed of negative-sense, single-stranded RNA ((-) ssRNA). The disease rabies, caused by the Lyssavirus, is a member of the Rhabdoviridae family as well. Bovine ephemeral fever (BEF) also known as Three Day Sickness is an arthropod vector-borne disease of cattle.
