Prostate cancer cell. Colored scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a prostate cancer cell. This rounded cell has an uneven surface with many cytoplasmic projections (green). Typically, cancer cells are large and they divide rapidly in a chaotic manner. Clumps of these cells form tumors which possess the ability to invade and destroy surrounding tissues. Prostate cancer is one of the most common male cancers mainly occurring in the elderly. Treatment involves removing the prostate gland, radiotherapy, or reducing the levels of the male hormone testosterone which seems to be linked to prostate cancer.
