Torry's Mormon tea. Also known as Torry's jointfir; Ephedra torryana. Female plant with cones. This species is found in the US southwest south into MX and north to UT and NV. Mormon tea are a primitive group of cone-bearing plants. A tea made from the steeped stems has long been used as a stimulating drink. An Asian relative is the source of the drug ephedrine.
