Snakeweed, also called broom snakeweed, Gutierrezia samothrae. In many parts of its range this plant grows with the similar annual broomweed, G. dracunculoides from which it can be told by the lesser number of petals and its mutistemmed habit of growth. Unlike broomweed, which is an annual this species is a perennial. Snakeweed has long been used medicinally by Native Americans for a variety of ailments. It is found from Saskatchewan and Alberta south through the Great Plains into Mexico and west to CA. Photo Hardemann Co., TX
