Tamarisk (Tamarix sp.), tamariceae, also called salt cedar. Grows near water, but needs saline soil. widely present in Greece, primarily on islands. The tamarisk, (greek: Myriki) appears in ancient Greek sagas; Myriki, daughter of King Kinyras of Cyprus and sister of Adonis, was changed into a tamarisk. The tree was dedicated to Aphrodite.
