When light is incident from the air (top) on an acrylic block (bottom) some light is reflected back to air and some light enters acrylic and refracts (bends) toward the normal to the surface. The angles of incidence and refraction are related through the Snell's law and depend on the refractive index of the block. Note the difference between the angles of reflection and refraction. In this photograph a red laser beam (635 nm) is used to demonstrate reflection and refraction.
