First quarter moon, Feb. 1996. The Moon reflects the light of the Sun. The revolution of the Moon around the Earth causes us to see the bright part of the Moon's surface from different angles. These are called "phases" of the Moon. In a first quarter moon, the right half of the Moon appears lighted and the left side is dark. The lighted part of the Moon will continue to grow until the Full Moon. 1/60 sec. exp. 16' f4.5 telescope.
