Lunar crepuscular rays in the sky over an observatory. Crepuscular rays are columns of air, usually lit by the sun, but in this case the moon, separated by darker, cloud-shadowed regions. The name comes from their frequent occurrences during crepuscular hours (around dawn or dusk), when the contrasts between light and dark are more obvious.
