Large Skipper Butterfly - on Devil's bit scabious (Succisa pratensis) (Ochlodes venata). Oxfordshire, England. The short roots of the Devil's bit scabious led to the legend that the devil bit off the root in anger at the Virgin Mary. It is found in damp waterlogged meadows and is a favourite of bees and butterflies.
