Butterwort (Pinguicula vulgaris). Ben Eighe National Nature Reserve, Scotland. an inconspicous insectivorous plant in flower. Small insects settling on the rosette of fleshy leaves are caught in the viscid secretion. Digestive enzymes enable nitrogenous nutrients to be taken into the leaves supplementing the process of photosynethesis.
