Engraving of the twin-hulled, paddle steamer 'Castalia', leaving Dover for Calais, August 1875. Built in 1874 for the English Channel Steamship Company, her radical design was intended to improve stability and sea-keeping. However the design was not a success and she was sold, in 1883, to the Metropolitan Asylums Board for use as a floating hospital on the River Thames.
