Double page illustration by Mabel Lucie Attwell (1879-1964) showing a small girl sitting on a rock amid sea waves, being persuaded by a 'mer-boy' to join him. Attwell was an immensely popular commercial artist with a career spanning more than fifty years. As well as illustrating many children's books, she illustrated advertisements, produced countless postcards and other ephemera for Valentine's of Dundee and regularly was published in the Tatler during the 1920's.
