Prince Joachim of Prussia (1890-1920), fifth son of Kaiser Wilhelm II and his son Karl Josef in 1919-1920. As a captain in a front line regiment Joachim had seen active service and been wounded during the war. He was depressed by the collapse of his father's throne and by his own failing marriage to Princess Marie Auguste of Anhalt. He moved to Lugano in Switzerland and spent most of his time gambling. In March 1920 Joachim hoped that a coup in Berlin, the 'Kapp Putsch', would overthrow the government and restore the monarchy. When it failed, Joachim felt he had no hope left and shot himself in July.
