The children of Princess Margarete of Prussia and Prince Friedrich Karl of Hesse-Cassel: from left; Wolfgang (1896-1989), Friedrich Wilhelm (1893-1916), known as 'Freddy', Richard (1901-1969), Philipp (1896-1980), Christoph (1901-1943) and Maximilian (1894-1914). Margarete was unusual within the Royal family for having two sets of twins. Queen Victoria, the boys' great-grandmother was alive when the first set, Philipp and Wolfgang were born and was greatly amused to hear the news. The children are dressed in the ubiquitous sailor suit, popular throughout the reign of Queen Victoria. Princess Margarete was the youngest daughter of Vicky, Princess Royal of Great Britain and Empress of Prussia.
