Poster advertising a comedy produced by Charles Cochran, The Better 'Ole, or The Romance of Old Bill, at the Theatre Royal, Chatham. Performed twice nightly, with a Wednesday matinee. Smoking allowed in all parts of the theatre. The Better Ole was a catchphrase talen from a Great War cartoon by Bruce Bairnsfather, the famous World War One cartoonist and artist, whose curmudgeonly soldier creation Ole Bill featured in weekly cartoons in the Bystander. Ole Bill went on to star in numerous revues and theatrical shows, some of them penned by Bairnsfather.
