View of the Church of the Resurrection, St Petersburg, Russia. It is also known as the Church of the Saviour on Spilled Blood, the Church on Spilt Blood, and the Cathedral of the Resurrection of Christ. The name refers to the blood of Tsar Alexander II, who was assassinated on this site in 1881. Construction was slow, beginning in 1883 and completing in 1907. The church is located next to the Griboedova Canal (formerly the Catherine Canal). It is richly decorated inside and out, and is a major tourist attraction.
