The naval ensign is hoisted for the first time on the battleship Bismarck, formally placing the ship in commission in the Kriegsmarine. The horizontal and vertical stripes as well as the iron cross in the upper corner are reminiscent of the old white ensign flown by ships of the Imperial German Navy.
