Headstone of the Nazi leader Rudolf Hess (1894-1987), Hitler's second in command who was sentenced to life imprisonment at the Nuremberg Trials in 1946. He died in Spandau Prison in 1987. The inscription reads " Ich Habs Gewagt", meaning I have dared. The name of Hess's wife Ilse (nee Prohl, 1900-1995), also appears on the headstone.
