Madame Henriette Caillaux (nee Raynouard, 1874-1943), wife of French finance minster Joseph Caillaux, recently on trial for the fatal shooting of Gaston Calmette, editor of Le Figaro, for damaging Caillaux's reputation as a politician. Her defence lawyer argued that she had committed a crime of passion rather than premeditated murder, and she was acquitted after a trial lasting eight days.
