'Private Finlayson, 2nd Battalion Scots Guards, carrying wounded Officers from a burning house at Kruseik. On renewing their counter attack in force at Kruseik, north-east of Zandvoorde, just before dawn on August 26th 1914, the Scots Guards were forced back with terrible losses. During the day, Private Finlayson was left in charge of 8 or 9 wounded officers. He dressed their wounds and obtained food for them at great risk from shell and rifle fire. The house was hit and set alight by shells. Finlayson caught up the wounded Officers and carried them to safety. His heroic conduct was deservedly awarded with the DCM. 'Deeds That Thrill The Empire.' Arthur Kemp Tebby, (1866-1935). Exhib.1883-1928.'
