'77 mm. German artillery shell case engraved at the Bezalel School in Jerusalem. Inlaid silver and copper damascene work depicting Rachel sitting and weeping for the victims of the riots in Poland in 5678 (1918) and 5679 (1919) with Jerusalem in the background. There is a pomegranate tree by her side. Extensive Hebrew text engraved in brass with the Hebrew letters around the top based on Jeremiah 31:14 - 'Thus says the Lord: A voice was heard in Ramah, lamentation and bitter weeping. The sound of crying in bitter grief. Rachel is crying for her children. She refuses to be comforted, because they are dead.' The Hebrew translation of the Hebrew letters on the base is based on I Samuel, Chapter 25, Verse 29 - 'May his soul be bundled up with the bundle of life.' Trench Art'
