Winston Churchill visiting anti 'flying bomb' defences in June 1944. Seen here at a gun battery in southern England. The caption on the back of the photograph reads, "The Prime Minister today, 30th June, toured southern England and saw the measures being taken to deal with flying bombs. He visited gun-sites and saw guns and fighters in action against them. He was accompanied by Mrs Churchill, General Sir Frederick Pile, and General Sir Hastings Ismay. He wore the uniform of Hon. Colonel of the 5th Cinque Ports, Battalion Royal Sussex Regiment, an appointment he holds by virtue of his office of Lord Warden of the Cinque Ports."
