Maker of the Emerson shoe the Grover shoe factory was a large wooden building heated by a steam boiler. In 1905 while a new boiler was being seviced, an older cole fed boiler was put back into action to keep the vast factory running. The boiler exploded at 7.45 am on March 20th. The floors within the building collapse, shortly after the building burst in to flames killing 58 workers and injuring 150. This disaster led to new industrial safety laws and the birth of a national code govening the safe operation of steam boilers.
